Is there an issue or limit to the number of connection threads to the same user account at the same time?

I'm teaching a few classes, 20-28 students. For simplicity, I have them use a single “class” account, signing in, then naming their projects unique to themselves. I noticed they can all sign in, but at some point, they are automatically signed out of the “class” account. It seems to happen whether they've named their project or left it as “Untitled-20” (for example).

Also, many of them, at some point, no longer saw the ‘sign in’ blue box, on the sign in screen, displayed. Some could see this, some could not. I did not have a chance to test how many could be connected at the same time without being logged out of Scratch - another class came in to use the lab.

Please advise whether this is a bug or a system limitation. We were using IE8.

Thanks!
Melanie

I only have one account, but I think that this is a glitch. The website has been notorious for logging people out ever since the original one was first created. I believe that the HTTP_USER_AGENT is stored with the session data in order to prevent cookie fraud (so it's possible that the browsers updated).

When I open Scratch Website again, it will be logged out. Please fix it

when I go back again into a scratch project editor it will be appear a blank project and disconected user. But when I go to Scratch Website, it will be connected again. There is no fix for this.

Hi Melanie,

This is a use case we've been wondering about since we released 2.0. When the whole class is logged into the same account, that means they can edit the same projects. That is a potentially bad problem - since the saves to the project file will overwrite each other in a way that won't be visible until both people close the editor. After that, the most recent “saver” will get saved, and all the other work done by the other student will be lost.

Is it prohibitive to create accounts for each student?
re: login - we'll look into this as well, but it depends on if it still “works” for a whole class to share a single account.

Thanks!

We can have the kids create their own accounts, which is what we did decide to do. One sometimes sticky issue: which email address to use? They may not know their parents' email addresses, so I recommend they put their teacher email address there (I assume it's possible to have multiple accounts associated with one email? I haven't tested this use case yet.) Thanks for responding to my request!

btw, I was surprised not to receive an email when you responded, or to find a list of my forum discussions in my stuff folder so I could easily see if there was a discussion thread to read. Only because I was surprised I didn't get a reply, did I search for it in the discussion forum just now and found indeed there were quite a few responses that I was not notified of. Is there a means for signing up to be notified of discussion thread activity?

Yes, it is possible to have multiple accounts based on one email.

Hello.
